Happy & Things

So, I'm working on my novel, and it's going well. I wrote a big draft portion that was something I began to refer to as a "hot tranny mess," and then I threw that out the window, and then with the knowledge of what I'd learned from that, I moved forward in the novel, although on occasion I drop in stuff from the draft that wasn't such a hot tranny mess after all.

I guess this is the first time I've gone to write a post about the novel and haven't thought to include some sort of "woe is me" aspect to it. It's not that hard. It's not that easy. This is not digging ditches, really.

What I think the novel is about changes. Porn Valley. Insanity. Los Angeles. Death. Humanity. Sex. California. Suicide. America. Love. Who knows. There's a lot of LA in it: bars, strip clubs, boulevards, nightscapes, skylines, streetwalkers, strippers, pornographers.

The main character, Xerxes, is more clear to me now. I suppose that's because I'm more clear to me now. Or so I would like to believe now.

Technically, what I'm writing is genre fiction. Crime. Mystery. Whatever they call it. I think Happy is psycho-noir. What if "Apocalypse Now," "Muholland Drive," and City of Glass met at a party and ended up in a threeway?

This is their bastard baby.

Or mine.
