The Future of Sex in Video Games
Cory Doctorow points to this amusing animated exploration of the sexual possibilities of video games by Savannah College of Art and Design Professor Daniel Floyd. After tracking the controversy laden history of sex in video games, Floyd suggests that intimacy and relationships in the medium hold promise as providing context for a sexual element that would more fully represent the human experience. I don't think, though, this is the answer. I think the fact of the matter is that technology is still in the dinosaur era, and that because sex is of the body, and technology, for the most part, remains a separate nuts and bolts entity, the gap between the two prevents people and technology from fully engaging when it comes to sex. Another way of putting that? You can't fuck your computer. Not yet, anyway. But when you can, oh, the fun you'll have in video game land.
