Save Your Soul

Watch Gnarls Barkley's awesome new video: "Who's Gonna Save My Soul?" I wrote a story like this once. Now, I don't know where it is.

The Exhausted Man

Yesterday, I came across this New York Times obituary for John Holmes. I guess I wouldn't have thought such a thing would exist, but there you have it. Sadly, it's marred by a printing error that repeats the first paragraph twice. I guess it's sort of tragic, isn't it?

Undressing the Androgyne

"Who are we beyond our physiology, beyond the truths we are taught by genetics and biology? What reality exists between masculine and feminine ideals? [M]ore than a visual treatise on the androgyne, the collection and its presentation suggest that fluid understandings of self and the performance of gender are part of the contemporary human experience." --YSL - SS09 Men's Collection - Full Version

Where You Are Not Is Where You Would Like To Be

Things here are stressful, so I am overdosing on fashion today as a uniporn chaser to soothe my mental ills--ya' feel me?

For Girls Who Have Considered Quitting When The Wonderland Seems Too Far Away

"Wonderland" by Knight and Storey.

"Filmed by Nick Knight and with a soundtrack of Professor Helen Storey intoning scientific formulae as fitting backdrop, this filmic finale to the 'Wonderland' project documents the aquatic aerobics of Helen's collection in the last stage of its life. With the clothes literally peeling from her body as the remarkable biodegradable polymers react against their submerged state, watch as model Alice Dellal twists and turns through her underwater ballet and Helen's creations ultimately surrender to their watery grave."

Heart-crushingly, eye-wrenchingly, true-bloodedly beautiful.

Writing Her Body

Girl blogger writes all over herself, right here and right now. ANIMAL calls bullshit, I appreciate her graphomania, you can watch the video.

"Morning" by Daniél L.

Stockholm-based photographer/filmmaker Daniél L. sent me a link to his short, "Morning." I liked it. The girl is spooky. You can read his working notebook Tumblr here.

You're My #1 Crush

"I would die for you
I would kill for you
I will steal for you
I'd do time for you
I would wait for you
I'd make room for you
I'd sail ships for you
To be close to you
To be a part of you
'Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
I would die for you."

Choke on This

It's hard to beat (HA-HA. GET IT? BEAT!) BuzzFeed's take on this chicken-choking ditty:

"We’re not quite sure what to make of this video from Thunderheist, but its inherent use of animal prints, chicken legs, and a blond Asian-y hipster chick do, nevertheless, make for some hypnotic imagery. In fact, watching this video is less likely to send you into a seizure than it is on a hazy shopping spree at American Apparel."

I'm calling it the Reverse Cowgirl clip o' the day.

Distorted Angel Remix

I found this video last night on YouTube. It's Tricky doing a remix of Elvis Costello's "Distorted Angel." I like the track: it's sad, haunting.

Thank You, Vinny B.

Earlier today, I got an email from Reverse Cowgirl reader Vinny B. He wrote: "i have a much better and dirtier remix of that missy track by a fella named Boreta. would you like to hear it?" And I was like, yeah, right. Because yesterday, I posted a link to a remix of Missy Elliott's "Pass That Dutch" that I thought was pretty hot. So I wrote Vinny B. back kind of like, whatever: "sure." And then he sent me the link, and I was like dayum. Because it is some good shit. It's so funky, you can taste it. It's part of one of Vinny's DJ sets. Listen to it.

Nice

My friend Mitch Ratcliffe wrote something nice about this blog the other day.

"Some blogs, like my friend Susannah Breslin’s Reverse Cowgirl Blog, come from the very marrow and are worth reading in stark contrast to most blogs about sex and culture. Susannah writes about sex, not about her sex life, and, so, one gets to see her think, wrestle with experience and put it into words. That’s what blogging should aspire to, because we don’t need more fanboy press—the mainstream media has that brainless niche nailed."

Thanks, Mitch.

The 50 Worst Sex Scenes in Cinema

IFC and Nerve have come together to pronounce "The 50 Worst Sex Scenes in Cinema." That's a lot of bad sex. Some choices I agree with, and some I don't. I don't get why "Irréversible" is #3. Harrowing? Maybe. Bad? No. "9 Songs" is #16. Since the actors were really having sex, does that make it a bad sex scene--or just bad sex? "Savage Grace" is #33. I haven't yet seen this movie, about the incestuous relationship between Barbara Daly Baekeland and her son, but just reading about it is stomach-turning: "No amount of prayers to the God of Timely Editing will cut short the squirmy agony, and when Barbara finally finishes, she's upset to learn that poor Tony didn't orgasm, so she beats him off until he does." And "Hollow Man" is #42. But it should be higher. Invisible man rapes woman. 'Nuff said.
