The New York Times Does Not Want Even The World's Tiniest Nipples On Its Website

For his Paris runway show yesterday, designer Gareth Pugh elected to show a fashion film of his collection, rather than send real live models down the runway. You didn't have to be in Paris to see the movie, though. Nick Knight's SHOWStudio debuted the video online in tandem with the Paris screening attended by the fashion elite. But when the Times posted a shot of the Pugh video to their fashion blog, The Moment, it appeared something was missing. One shredded top clearly exposes the model's nipples. When the same image appeared on the Old Gray Lady's website, her nipples had been Photoshopped out of sight. (Click for bigger.)

The Trend Hunter

Trend de la Creme is one of my favorite blogs. Check out some terrific recent posts: "Meet Me at the Morgue," "What's All the Fuzz About?," and "Sharp 'Shoe'-ters." I love all of it.

Beautiful Androids

"On a California summer afternoon, the industrial landscape of Sun Valley — a stretch of gravel pits and salvage yards next to the Golden State Freeway — seems to quiver against a backdrop of cloudless sky and the Verdugo Mountains on the smudged horizon. Here, deep within the Apex Electronics store, Laura and Kate Mulleavy are carefully excavating a hoard of insulated wires. 'The Teflon-coated ones have the most intense colors,' Kate says as she uncoils several inches of blazing vermilion wire, a remnant from a local aerospace firm. Kate, 29, and Laura, 28, are sisters, artistic collaborators and partners in Rodarte, the three-year-old fashion label based in Los Angeles." -- "Double Vision"

Stripper International

For reasons I will never fully understand, one of the most popular Reverse Cowgirl posts this year was "Stripper Nation," which featured a pair of stripper shoes that had a coin slot in the platform in which men could, ah, insert their, um, tips. Why was that post so popular? Who knows. Perhaps it was the intersection of sex and economy. At the time, I was no doubt influenced by Dlisted, a site I read with embarrassing frequency, and the writer of which is highly obsessed with Shauna Sands, who wears Lucite stripper shoes like kids wear Converse. In any case, today Dlisted points to a German fashion show that was part of Berlin Fashion Week, where the models wore Lucite stripper shoes that were decorated with flowers. The designer, Scherer González, makes some pretty wild clothes, including accordion-bottomed bustiers and fox stoles with the skulls exposed, that are one part McQueen and one part Mugler. The New York Times says: "The result is an unequivocal argument for repression." On the other hand, Dlisted says: "You know Christian Louboutin is stabbing his dick with a stiletto heel for not coming up with this shit."

New Tumblr Theme

I changed the template on my Tumblr to this beautiful Vertigo theme created by Matthew Buchanan. I turned the orange to pink, which is probably a horror for real designers, but that's what happens when the little people stick their hands into back ends, I suppose. Thanks, Matthew. It's very pretty. Also, I'd been using a one quote and one image a day format, but I decided to chuck that out of the window. I'd had enough of it. I'll be posting higgeldy-piggeldy there for a while. Relatedly, I love this photo of Christy Turlington. Boots for stompin'. You can see more here.

Gaultier '08 Couture

"By the late twentieth century, our time, a mythic time, we are all chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism; in short, we are cyborgs." -- "A Cyborg Manifesto," Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2008 Couture, click for bigger.

Undressing the Androgyne

"Who are we beyond our physiology, beyond the truths we are taught by genetics and biology? What reality exists between masculine and feminine ideals? [M]ore than a visual treatise on the androgyne, the collection and its presentation suggest that fluid understandings of self and the performance of gender are part of the contemporary human experience." --YSL - SS09 Men's Collection - Full Version

Where You Are Not Is Where You Would Like To Be

Things here are stressful, so I am overdosing on fashion today as a uniporn chaser to soothe my mental ills--ya' feel me?

Fashion Round Up, Bitches

Yes, I'll take the Vivienne Westwood Armour Ring for £170.00, please.

Well, hello, Sergio Lo Re. It's so very nice to meet you. A bodyguard, you say? You are so hired.

Is that Andy Warhol's banana you have on your underpants, or are you just happy to see me?

Heart on Chain

I really love this anatomically correct heart on a chain from Paraphernalia. It also comes in black and white. Or you can show off your ribcage. Or your brain. (Via VividFluxury.)

Return of the Nerdgro

MenMenMen

It's men's fashion week in Milan. Didncha know? This fetishtastic rubber trench from Prada is a standout. After the show, Miuccia declared men are struggling between fragility and power, "hanging in the balance... between extremes." Interesting. And right, I think. Tim Blanks witnessed: "All this and a gold latex coat: As the mannequin moved, it trembled, poised indeed between fragility and power." Navigating the gap continued on other runways. At Alexander McQueen, the clothes "defined a man’s body (as opposed to the slender frames of the 90-pound weaklings that pass for mannequins on many catwalks)" and revealed the male form in gauzy transparencies and oxblood spangled tiers. Men in crisis? Maybe. Or perhaps they're just exploring the scope of their sexuality in latex and sheers.

Say Hello to the Mankini

Once upon a time, Rudi Gernreich gave the world the monokini. Now, Alexander McQueen gives men the... mankini? It's hot. Um, sort of.

XXX Church Shirts

Say what you will about the XXX Church, but I always thought their merch was pretty cool. Like this new design. They've got their classic "Jesus Loves Porn Stars" in silver foil on black. And don't tell me you don't already have their "Jesus Loves Porn Stars" bible. Ironically, their T-shirts are printed on American Apparel.

Porn Is Dead 2

The July issue of W features a sopping wet sorta-furry, half-naked Daria & half-naked Kate, and gratuitous amounts of gratuitous nudity, all shot by Bruce Weber for a layout that's ostensibly about fashion designers.
